Thanks paul. It turrns out that there was an enviroment setting
with a non-existent path in it. Once that was corrected, the
sockets were happily created. I just kinda ssumed that there
would be an option in mknod for all kinds of special files.
Or at least some other such like tool. Ah well. So much for
consistency :-)
