Fw: [ILUG] Nasty isdn...

Not sure if this will help, but when working with an ISP on support, the
following was noted:
( Some ) ISDN connections through the 1891 access number exhibited the
strangest behaviour, apparently at the lowest level, causing connections to
be effectively unusable for smtp of all things, reporting packet level
problems ( ? ) where ping worked fine. ( from smtp server logs )
The solution was to find out the 'true' direct dial phone number to the hunt
group ( modem banks ), and not go through the re-routed 1891 *** ****
number.
An NT server gave a 'framing error' error message at the hardware level
( ? ), but when dialled in directly using the local number, it worked every
time.
I should stress that this problem only affected SMTP, not web / ftp / ping.
I was sceptical given that ping showed 0% packet loss, until I saw it for
myself.
Hope this helps,
Brendan.
