I have some suspicions that this might be a similiar issue to a
recently discovered little endian to bigendian 16 bit color garbling.
Persumably with vnc the fake display is the same endianess as the machine
on which SO is being run, over the communication with the vnc on the sparc
I can imagine that the endianesss of XImages etc is fixed by the vncserver,
while with real X its supposed to be up to the SO client to sort it out,
which *may* be naievely assuming that the XImages are always the same
endianess as the platform its being run from. A very tentative thought,
little evidence to support it.
It would be useful to know what version (5.1|5.2) of staroffice it is,
and if the same thing happens on the XSun server (don't suppose its
a dual boot machine with solaris and the default X server ?), if the little
sparc could be convinced to try out a few different colour depths that would
be also helpful.
Scanning the list of extensions against my own working remote (msb to lsb)
I don't see anything in your list of differences that I have myself, so
I don't thing its an extension. Depths, visuals, endianess, fonts issues
are the type of horrors I would expect to be at the heart of it.
