The price promise states that if you find an identical product for sale
within 10 mile, and within 7 days of purchase in Dixons, they will
refund the difference. I went to carphone warehouse looking for a hands
free, saw the £224 Visor deluxe, got a written quote, (might be useful
for the guys in work who insist on buying palm V's)rang Dixons was told
that I needed a written quote.

Dixons deputy manager was very condescending, "Carphone warehouse don't
have them in stock" ( we had seen them 15 minutes previously) and "let
me read out the price promise", I explained that I was able to read
well enough to se a £50 price difference. He then insisted that a
written quote was useless and could I walk back to grafton street and
get the carphone warehous manager to ring him. Carphone warehouse would
not give the Dixons folk a quote over the phone even when they said
that they were private individuals, isn't caller id wonderful. My lady
love (visor was for her) then rang carphone warehouse on her own
mobile, got a quote, went back into jervis St. and passed the phone to
the sad little manager guy.

It could have been anybody on the phone but it was enough. I asked what
happens now, and discovered that a £50 difference opens a large can of
worms within Dixons, i.e. somebody not doing their job properly,
marketing investigate etc. This is when the exclusive supplier to
Ireland bit came out.

apologies for the OT rant, but I know that most of us have such pets,
any opinions on the IPAQ of will linux be really viable on such a
beastie ?

Brendan

Pretty bloody easy to give a price promise when you're the only
supplier in
the country ! Nice one Brendan - did they require any proof that
Carphone
Warehouse had them at that price. BTW what is their price promise - must
they sell it to you at the Carphone Warehouse price, or can you actually
make a profit on the deal i.e. do they refund you double the difference
or
something.
