[ILUG] Severe weirdness

Anyone care to guess at what's happening here ?

niall at magic:/home/niall > ls -l /usr/local/bin/agrep
-rwxr-xr-x 1 niall users 134642 Sep 20 12:22 /usr/local/bin/agrep

niall at magic:/home/niall > file /usr/local/bin/agrep
/usr/local/bin/agrep: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel 80386, version 1,
dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped

niall at magic:/home/niall > ldd /usr/local/bin/agrep
/usr/bin/ldd: /usr/local/bin/agrep: No such file or directory

niall at magic:/home/niall > less /usr/local/bin/agrep
"/usr/local/bin/agrep" may be a binary file. See it anyway?

# I viewed the file with less - just a load of binary garbage, of course.

So, what gives ? Obviously agrep was corrupted in some way, but how does it
produce the weird result ? Before you ask, I didn't keep the bad file, and
agrep is a grep-like utility (surprise, surprise !)

Regards,

Niall
