On the subject of LOSSLESS sound compression a good sound 
compressor I've encountered is Kexis
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/kexis/)
Also rar (http://www.rarsoft.com) has a multimedia (-mm)
compression mode. A quick test on 2 wav files I have gives
the following results (note all these are lossless).
