[ILUG] Getting the server to dial to the net from a web browser???

I ended up disabling dns requests as trigger which effectively kept the
doze machine behind bars

did similar but to be used with "Connect to Internet" and "Block Internet"
buttons in the gnome panel.  I run a 4-times-per-day cron connect to
harvest email also.  

diald runs on the 486 gateway/firewall and telnets the local mailserver to
tell it the connection is up and email/news harvesting runs every 3 minutes
while the connection is up.  On connection down, the firewall telnets the
mailserver again to let it know and the mail harvesting stops.  I'm
terribly impressed with myself though!
