errno is /the/ global error variable. If something messes up in a
system call, errno is supposed to be set to indicate what went wrong.
Look up your local copy of errno.h (which is symlinked and/or included
all over the place, but eventually turns out to be in one of the
asm directories in the kernel source) for a list of possible errors.
