I disagree, my wife is a newbie, whether it is linux or windozs, she finds
both equally difficult to understand. But over time she has decided -
completely on her own bat, that she prefers linux.

Her reasons are twofold
1: Almost Total Stability - hey nothings perfect...
2: She opens application in exactly the same was as in windozs. 

i.e.: To run say XAWTV, she either opens are shell and runs the command
there (just like DOS right)
Or she runs them from the desktop or from the "start" menu. 

To run Heroes, she runs heroes3 -xws from a shell (because she likes to have
the TV in a window and no sound from the game to annoy her) This is NOT
POSSIBLE with any windozs (I have both windows and linux versions) as both
the game and the TV fight for direct draw - the result being, monitor
switches off and you have to press the reset button. 

She also prefers the multiple screen views - this actually pissed her off
when she couldn't find the option in windows to do the same. 

So there you go! Please understand - my wife HATES computers, but she will
always choose linux over any MS OS if she needs to.
