just easy to type in vi (26a1<esc>). i've tried all 1's and a combo of
0-9a-f. neither worked. i suspect i'll need to trace the driver source.

alternatively i could go upgrade to 2.4.16. is that easy for a redhat
6.2 box? i'd go order 7.2, etc, but i don't really have time to risk
a day's downtime to fart with my machine. wasted most of last night
installing and patching my openbsd firewall.
