... and the sudden downturn in the IT environment, with massive
layoffs and consequent labour surpluses in the system administration,
programming and networking environments couldn't possibly have had
anything to do with it?  It is, of course, a requirement of employment
law here that posts be offered to EEA nationals in preference to
non-EEA nationals; while this of course would render it almost
impossible for you to find work in the current environment, it's a bit
rich to ascribe your misfortune entirely to "anti-American sentiment".
