[ILUG] Home-Made fonts?

I've just had a quick google for this subject but can not find anything that 
tells you 'how' to make your own fonts, just how to install existing fonts. I 
know that at least one person on this list has created his own fonts. My 
daughter has designed herown font-set by hand and would like to be able to 
use it in Linux and ,God forbid, Windows. I've explained this is not a simple 
undertaking, but she has set out the full alphabet and numerals so I thought 
the least I could do was to see what I could find for her.

If anyone has some tips, ideas or even beter a pointer to a how-to or 
instructions to send her way @
