I had the same problem with an old P200.. It would restart for no
reason. Fixed the problem by adding a fan to the top of the CPU. 

It's widely reported that Linux "runs cooler" than Windows. There's an
idle loop that Windows always executes while waiting for input or when
it's not doing anything. An idle Linux box is simply idle, so the CPU
gets a chance to cool down after that frantic game of Quake3..

Hmm, Linux, better for the environment and your electricity bills too :)

Does /var/log/messages say anything about hardware problems such as
conflicting IRQs?
