Having mudded myself all out more than a few years ago I'm not sure if I
understand this entire online game idea. In most cases [READ: FPS],
developers shout and roar about online aspects because after pumping up the
polygon count they have not actually sat down to come up with any original
ideas.
"Ohh I have a thought, instead of working out ways to advance the genre I'll
simply slap sparkly new textures around a few maps, throw in some network
code shove it in a box and sell it to the masses."
Western game developers have learned an awful lot from Microsoft, don't
bother with content, jump on a bandwagon, market it well and the money
should roll in.
Moving away from why I think 99% of Western game developers suck, I find it
somewhere between ironic and moronic that people would consider establishing
a walled city for Linux only clients. This is ILUG, and anything associated
with ILUG should be open to ILUG members, regardless of their chosen gaming
platform.
Regards,
Mark.
