That's the problem with this picture. Eircom seems to be dragging it out
for as long as possible. The cable companies were/are about to break
into Eircom's core business and there was no guaranteed reciprocal
rights as far as I know. This would mean that the cable companies would
have access to Eircom lines and could take all the disgruntled Eircom
customers but Eircom could not poach cable customers.
Eircom/Rondo's attempt to get into pay television owes more to the
dot.bomb idiocy of the pre-crash days. I do not believe that these
people know that much about pay television or the mechanics of pay
television.
I'd like to be optimistic about something happening with either LLU or
bitstream soon but years of dealing with Eircom has left me with only
one view - that they should die screaming.
