[ILUG] No X-Server after compile of new kernel.

Easiest thing would be to boot into a runlevel where X doesn't get run
automagically, i.e. under RedHat it gets run at runlevel 5, so booting
into runlevel 3 would give you full network etc but no X. To do this, at
the lilo prompt type the name of the image followed by the runlevel
number e.g.
boot: new_kerenel 3
Once logged in check and see if there is a /var/log/XFree86.0.log. It
might have an error message detailing what failed during the load. If
there isn't a file there, try running "X" from the command line (sans
quotes) and see if it works/generates the log file.
If it's something really bad like nothing happens then perhaps you
forgot to compile in AGP support or something. More info would help
anyway as it's most likely a simple problem.
