No, no, a thousand times no :-) Certain people here are going to find this
tedious (afternoon, Kevin) but ISDN is a synchronous protocol and accessing
it via an asynchronous port is just braindead esp. now that the major
distros have integrated ISDN4Linux (I4L) very well and it's really just plug
and play.
With I4L you have another network interface which is always there,
and can be configured to come up on demand if required. You get much lower
latency than through a serial port (witness John Diamond's mention of his
fathers situation where the TA is connected via USB and it's much faster
than via the serial port)

Go with I4L and use an internal TA - about 20 quid from Scan, or for a
little more, you can get one with an analog port.
