[ILUG] [OT]Video to .mpeg or .mov

Hi all,

Just wondering, does anyone have any expreience recording the contents of a
VHS video tape onto their computer and then converting it to .mpeg or .mov
format?

What resources will I need (tv/video card?, sound card?)?  Also, does linux
support both .mov and .mpeg?
