Well, every so often the unstable distribution lives up to its[0] name -
that's why it's called unstable.

 At worst when there were some major libc screwups, I whipped out the ILUG
BBC and had it fixed in about 5 mins. Of course it was me who broke it
that badly by trying to fix the existing screwup where nothing would
resolve. Moral of the story is don't play with your your core libraries
unless you know _exactly_ what you're doing.

But yes, we keep mission critical packages on hold until they're tested on
other machines. Keeping packages on hold is, funnily enough, another nifty
feature of apt/dselect/dpkg.

[0] Interesting but correct apostrophe case just to bring in the other
    part of this discussion.
