Has anyone every got a Seagate STT8000A, ATAPI TAPE drive working
# uname -a
Linux lennon 2.2.13 #7 Thu Mar 15 00:43:27 GMT 2001 i586 unknown
It get's detected at boot time OK:-
ide0: BM-DMA at 0xfcd0-0xfcd7, BIOS settings: hda:DMA, hdb:DMA
ide1: BM-DMA at 0xfcd8-0xfcdf, BIOS settings: hdc:pio, hdd:pio
hda: QUANTUM BIGFOOT_CY4320A, ATA DISK drive
hdb: IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM 44XS, ATAPI CDROM drive
hdc: Seagate STT8000A, ATAPI TAPE drive
but when I try even the most basic means of access it bombs out:-
lennon:~# echo hello > file
lennon:~# dd if=file of=/dev/hdc
dd: /dev/hdc: Device not configured
I've tried the f-tape tools and drivers but it specifically states
that IDE drives are not supported by the f-tape stuff and compiling
and loading the modules made no difference.
I read somewhere that the drive should be accessed via /dev/mt* and
/dev/rmt* Neither of these device types exist on my system. Anone know
how to create them?
Please reply via e-mail.
