Here's a nice suggestion, anyone got an idea on how easy (or otherwise) it'd
be to implement ...
We all know you should never log on as root unless you're doing system
maintenance etc ...., we are also (sometimes painfully) aware of what can
happen when we mistype a command, hit enter, and then read it, realise, and
proceed to lart ourselves ...
Suggestion:
A shell that implements a configurable timer delay before
implementing the command, during which time you can cancel the command with
a keystroke (^C). The shell could also (as an option) log all tty output.
This would function as a get-out-of-jail-free-card and a reminder of what
you've done ...
Obviously any root worth his salt won't need it, and can just open a bash
shell, but for those of us with brains ("rm -rf / my home dir" anyone ?) it
could just save what's left of our sanity / jobs.
(And no, the only time I "rm-rf / "'d was when I meant it, honest !!)
