[ILUG] esat ftp servers

Another warning about Esat's FTP servers : last week I copied two RH 7.2
ISO's across from their mirror to another machine in Ireland, to give
myself an uninterrupted server from which to download to New Zealand.
2 ISOs at 56k dialup takes almost 7 days of fairly continuous downloading,
so I was pretty furious when I found that both images were corrupt, and
had been corrupt as received from Esat.
Lesson learned : *always* check the MD5 sums on ISO's before moving them
somewhere else or burning to CD. Even local loop mounting won't suffice
as a check : in this case most of the first few directories were OK,
while the majority of the disk, including autorun, was binary gibberish
and caused a lockup on attempting to boot from the CD.
Regards,
Vin
P.S. Thanks to John Looney and Antefacto for zooming to the rescue with
a pair of CD's in time to include them in a FedEx package to me yesterday,
saving me another week's wait ;-)
