I went for Amanda to backup about a dozen boxes on our lan and off site
to tape. It's a pleasure to use once you read the docs and works
flawlessly. Unfortunately http://www.amanda.org/ was displaying a
directory listing the last time I went to it.. ah, seems to be fixed!
Installing clients is easy. Just run the same ./configure parameters on
each, make, make install and set up some files (which becomes obvious
when you see the error messages amcheck creates). Adding the client to
the server is done by simply adding disk definitions to the "disklist"
file.
I didn't bother restoring directly to client boxes. I restore to the
server in a temp directory and woud rsync/ftp the files back. I'll mail
you offlist with the docs I've written on installing Amanda if you
decide to go ahead with that.

Donncha.
