[ILUG] Leased lines

I used to work in a company that had an Eircom 128k leased line,
they upgraded to 512k with NTL. Eircom was about £14,000 a year
for the 128k and NTL was much the same price for 512k

Latest news i heard from them they are upgrading again and Eircom
were willing to do FAR cheaper than NTL - so much so that NTL 
were shocked and couldnt match them. I forget the exact price
but they were given a quote in the region of 5 grand cheaper with Eircom.

It appears that currently Eircom are willing to make a loss
in order to starve their competitors. So Eircom might be worth checking
out - especially if you're prepared to haggle a bit.

If i was buying a leased line and its purpose was mission critical to my
organisation, certainly reliability would be a very high priority. 
Dont forget to ask around other users of particular providers to guage 
the reputation of the service and support and reliability. Outages and
using ISDN backup etc may severely affect the cost overall. 

In that same company when we had the Eircom leased line the uptime on
the connection was well over a year (since installation) with never a fault.
When we moved to NTL it averaged a 2-4 hour outage every month. I wasnt
impressed with their support or reliability at all - especially as all their
support centres were based in Wales in Cardiff.

 Bah. Things aren't cheap when they aren't listed with prices on web
pages.

Kate, who learned that all Apple distributors price hardware within 4% of
each other, and non-apple distributors can beat them on price by about
30%...
