[ILUG] d.so.conf file

Does anyone know how the ld.so.conf file is formatted. It contains the
following on my machine at the moment:
/usr/lib
/usr/kerberos/lib
/usr/x11r6/lib
/usr/lib/qt-2.3.0/lib

but when i run the folling command:
/usr/sbin/chroot /home/cvsuser/jail bin/ldconfig

i get the this error message:
can't open configuration file /etc/ld.so.conf: No such file or directory

Any help appreciated,
