On Mon, 5 Nov 2001 V.P.Singh Gill didst pronounce:

> I do not wish to hurt anyone, but I was a bit dis-appointed at the kind of response that I got from ILUG members. All I asked was 'How can I change network settings like IP/ netmask under RHL 7.2, without rebooting the system after making the changes.

And you were told how. Change the settings manually in the network scripts
in /etc/sysconfig then restart networking.

>This is because Linuxconf does not work properly. And so does /etc/init.d/network restart. New IP/netmask is applied only when I reboot the system'.

/etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart will restart the networking and use the
new settings from the files. Use ifconfig to check the settings.

> But I got a lot of vague answers. Some asked 'What exactly do you mean. What are you trying to change ?'

It's a very vague question.

> I ask 'What does "changing network settings" mean in simplest of all cases?'

Just that -- changing network settings.
