[ILUG] Any solution to NIC settings problem?

Also to save youself typing a few slashes and dots,
on most redhat-ish distros you can just type

service network restart

and there's also a command "chkconfig" that takes the pain out
of managing the symlinks in SysV init scripts directories.  

Actually, I find both the BSD and SysV init systems a bit annoying -
there was some project to create a replacement that had automatic dependency 
handling for daemon/start stoppage and such, but I've lost the link to it -( 

In the meantime, there is a project that is still basically SysV, but instead 
of having to maintain a symlink-forest, you edit a text file embodying the 
same information:
