[ILUG] nasty xmodmap..or something

I used to be happy. I had X working. Then I upgraded to RedHat 7.2.

My .Xmodmap file used to be parsed on startup. No more.

keycode 166 = osfHelp
keycode 146 = osfExtend
keycode 158 = osfRestore
keycode 109 = Multi_key
pointer = 2 1 3 4 5

! Evil, evil caps lock. I map it to raise_lower in my window manager
remove lock = Caps_Lock
keycode 66 = osfSelect

keycode 115 = osfDelete
keycode 116 = osfUndo
keycode 117 = osfMenu
keycode 26 = e E currency

Now, .Xmodmap isn't auto-parsed. When it is, the "pointer" line is
ignored, and the caps lock line gives an error (but works anyway). I've to
run it manually from the command line. My "pound" symbols don't display
properly. I can't get anything from the Euro symbol either (it used to be
altgr-E).

Any ideas what could be broken ? The fonts I'm using are iso8859-15
charset. Is there a single good way of setting up stuff like mouse button
orientation etc . ?

Kate
