Not having a RH 7.2 to play with (I moved away from RH to Mandrake after
being bitten by an ultra-shoddy release a while back... probably RH6.0, IIRC)
, I can't offer particularly informed comment, but:
pc101 AFAIK doesn't have a compose key, so try going to pc105 - then the
wierdo keys on your keyboard are:
[[Physical == logical]]
LWindow key == Meta_L
Alt key == Alt_L
(Yes, you can have separate Meta and Alt keys! double your emacs
shortcut-space!)
Ralt key == Mode_switch
Rwindow Key == Multi_key (compose, or near enough)
Menu key == Menu
The "gb" should ensure shift-3 is £. Note that if you're using
the new Xft/XRender font subsystem, there seems to be a lot
of fonts that don't display the £ sign -probably something to do with
character encodings, since it seems to happen to me mainly with .ttfs
imported from windows, but works fine with fonts like "fixed" and such.
Also, just out of curiosity, you could send me the output of
xmodmap -pke
and I'll diff it against mine...
