if you have globally unique addresses then you dont need to worry
whether or not you can "get away with" NAT.
ie, there's no way you can connect to my machine, because it does not
have a unique address. (ignoring firewalls).

right, and they're good arguments.
but the vast majority of NAT use is to workaround IPv4 address
other more special case applications are different.
