[ILUG] gcc 3.0.1

hi,
I am runing redhat 7.1 and i wanted to upgrade gcc so i could compile Mplayer,i download 
cpp-3.0.1-0.1.i386.rpm
gcc-3.0.1-0.1.i386.rpm
gcc-c++-3.0.1-0.1.i686.rpm
do i need to download anything else???
When i ./configure Mplayer here is what i get:

Checking if your compiler 'gcc' supports C++ ... no
Your C++ compiler does not support C++, make sure you have enabled it on
compiler compilation or for binary packages, make sure the appropriate
packages are installed!

Can anyone help
