[ILUG] leafnode vs leafnode+

I was running leafnode 1.9.19 for a while, but my wife was consistently
having trouble getting her Mac to be able to reliably get new articles
with MacSoup.

At the suggestion of someone, I checked out leafnode+ at
http://www.io.com/~kazushi/leafnode+. It did indeed resolve whatever
the problem was with MacSoup. But I also noticed that using either
mozilla or xemacs+gnus, the response when I read news is dramatically
faster. Getting the current state of the groups is very, very quick.

The leafnode+ site offers some history on the divergence between the
two. Any theories on which, leafnode or leafnode+, is showing signs of
living longer? I wonder if it can overcome what emacs/xemacs haven't,
and actually merge back into a single source tree.
