FWIW, Telstra here do the same.  I now own an Alcatel SpeedTouch Pro, but
don't know the password, hence my mail above :(

Mind you I reckon I'll probably be able to hard-reset and reconfig before
I go home so I can use it there too -- no point paying for 2 of the things
;)
