I gave up on compiling xine, and went for the Sid packages
(0.9.4), adding a dmd plugin in the process (with the css package, too).
This did no good :/

Yep.

Latest Xine doesn't compile. It seems like the xine-config script
gives weird paths to configure, or the libraries lack functions.
(Not to worry; MPlayer does most of what I want it to do - there's
nothing Xine does that MPlayer doesn't right now ;)

The last one to actually compile on my system was 0.9.2, and even that
had problems. Any CSS-encrypted DVD would have problems. Fast-forwarding
was impossible (or backwarding, or any form of chapter/title skipping).
That is, if the DVD played at all. I'll wait for an 0.9.5+ release before
I try it again ;)
