Imagine a world where you buy a box from Dell and it boots into KDE or
GNOME. Take one complete newbie, and teach him/her to use the system. Is
it going to be harder than doing the same sort of thing except with
windows? I think not. A lot of the learning curve in Linux is with the
installation, and messing about when things break. It's arguable that a
lot of software in Linux is not particularly well integrated. But it's
at least as integrated as any non MS stuff on a Windows box. When said
newbie finds they have to reinstall windows on their own, or fix a
hardware or driver problem that MS haven't anticipated, they're not
going to find much solace in "plug and play".

Anyway, Linux is improving faster than any MS OS, and will catch up
eventually in terms of desktop friendliness. Check out the KDE 3.0
screenshots...umm tastes like XP.
