[ILUG] DEC -> VGA connector..

I did some research on going the other way. We've a couple of nice 19" DEC
monitors with RGB connectors and wanted to use them with our normal vga
adaptors.

First up, are there 3 or 5 connectors, ie is it R,G & B or R, G, B, Black
and White Connections. If it's three plugs, your monitor will need to
understand sync-on-green or you'll need a converter. Googling for
sync-on-green will give you circuit diagrmas for such a thing. Basically
the sync info goes normally on the black/white connectors, but is embedded
in the green signal by some interesting use of Logic gates etc in the case
of the RGB only.

I've found a number of people who would sell me a RGB->VGA converter
(google) and the other way also, but they are expensive (>£100). You can build
them yourself quite reasonably, but I don't know how good the quality would
be. You could always go to Galway and get Ken's friends DEC monitors
either!
