long ago, in another career one of my coworkers was looking into tcp
alternatives.  if i remember right ethe following was one of the papers
he was reading.  xtp's not mentioned above so i guess it never made it
along the standards track.

anyway, in case people are curious about net protocols, they might make
interesting reading.
