 I am using a tool called demime for some internal mailing lists.
 It works a treat, and some lusers are quite astonished if their
 Word document is reduced to a short message that former was removed :-)

 However, it removes _all_ non-text parts. But I'm sure it could be
 hacked to work only on multipart/alternative.

 Together with procmail, it should do the trick.
