Which raises a sort of interesting question:

If I get "CONNECT 115200", is that the rate negotiated between -
a) My machine and its modem
b) My modem and the ISPs modem
c) Some notional figure I might as well ignore

I can observe the actual download rate using pload. I can tweak it
slightly 
by using the bsdcomp and/or deflate options, but is there any reliable
way 
to determine the connect rate?
