Is it really a good idea to run alan cox's kernels? (in a server) Aren't
they more experimental? Linus only releases the stable variety - I believe.
I could well be wrong :)
Clarification from some brainy person would be nice.
Since its a server I would stick with the stable varieties.
Is it SMP CPU(s)? If so you can forget APM, it does not work with
multiprocesing, It should also not work if the machine is SMP capable but
only 1 cpu running.
The only thing that should be shut down with APM is the monitor and that can
be done with the BIOS.
I reckon a BIOs update is a good idea. Someone else mentioned that but its
probably correct.
My 2 Euros,
CW
I have windows NT4 - sorry sir but windows is not supported.
---------------------------
What kernel you running 2.2 or 2.4.. if 2.4 get an ac > 2.4.6ac1...
in the patch I can see
{ set_bios_reboot, "PowerEdge 1300/500", { /* Handle problems with
rebooting on Dell 1300's */
+ MATCH(DMI_SYS_VENDOR, "Dell Computer
Corporation"),
+ MATCH(DMI_PRODUCT_NAME, "PowerEdge 1300/500"),
+ NO_MATCH, NO_MATCH
+ } },
+ { set_bios_reboot, "PowerEdge 1300/550", { /* Handle problems
with rebooting on Dell 1300's */
+ MATCH(DMI_SYS_VENDOR, "Dell Computer
Corporation"),
+ MATCH(DMI_PRODUCT_NAME, "PowerEdge 1300/550"),
+ NO_MATCH, N
doesn't look good .. it might have made it's way into 2.2.20 when it comes
out ..
Dave.
