urgh, the dreaded CPAN sorceror's apprentice.  This should be a FAQ, it's
been a bug in CPAN.pm for *years* at this stage.  Ludicrous.  Set:

  prerequisites_policy = ask

and always say "n" when it asks if you want a new perl.

As for out-of-control package dependencies: Data::Dumper is for wimps ;)

BTW John, what version of WINE are you running CS under?
