All CNAMES take a longer resolution time (if you look up a domain name 
which is a CNAME, you end up looking for a second domain name for the 
actually RR type you were looking for).

One major disadvantage is that some MTAs will barf on a CNAME in an MX 
record (but bind tends to yell at you in the logs if you put a CNAME in an 
MX record).
