This suggestion:
well, try to force it:
Xnest -fp tcp/localhost:7100
Worked. Except I had to substitute tcp/debian:7100 as I'm running Xnest from
a UML environment that is hosted on debian. My own.
Now I get Xnest to load fine using the following:
In one terminal, I log in as root and export DISPLAY=debian:0
Then I run
Xnest :1 -fp tcp/debian:7100 &
from this terminal and I get a blank Xnest window on the host.
I log into another terminal and export $DISPLAY=:1
When I run xterm, this opens fine, but if I run XFree86 -configure, it fails
with:
bash-2.05a# XFree86 -configure

Fatal server error:
xf86OpenConsole: Cannot find a free VT
When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send
the full server output, not just the last messages.
This can be found in the log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log".
Please report problems to xfree86 at xfree86.org.
bash-2.05a#
I don't understand why it doesn't see the VT when xterm did.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. I thought I had most of this stuff
figured out by now :-(
Cheers,
John Gay
