I don't know about these so called .dat files, but if they have their mail
servers set to accept mail for certain domains, any mail to those domains that
passes through the mail servers will probably get delivered locally instead
of transferred to an MX specified host.
I've had problems with eircom, esat and via networks dns servers blocking
access to customer's sites because of old dns records, but this is usually
because nobody has told them to change things. A quick phone call usually
sorts things out.
What worries me is that sometimes it seems _too easy_ to get them to remove
old records. Sometimes they ask for faxed confirmation from the domain owner,
but sometimes they just take your word for it and delete stuff!
