I got YellowDog 2.1 running on a PowerBook G4. The display was a bit of 
a struggle, but that's always the way with laptops in general and new 
ATI chipsets in particular (XFree86 from CVS required for me).

An iMac should be no trouble at all to it and all of its hardware should 
be supported out-of-the box. Even the modem that's not a software modem 
(grumble, moan).

If Liam was around I'm sure he would suggest Debian, but you probably 
want 'unstable' ISOs rather than the current release 2.2r4.
