That's not an ia32 limitation. Get yourself a decent SMP board, or one 
of the few uniprocessor boards with an IO APIC. Lots of IRQ lines, often 
one per device (depends on the board layout) and much higher performance 
too. The aacraid driver in 2.4.17 has a bug that causes 150,000 
interrupts per second. It's hardly noticable on a machine with IO APIC.
