it does i thought. but i cant get it work.
it might be cause my images are of whole disks, not a partitions.
i've tried to use dd to extract the partitions to seperate files from
the whole disk image, but either:
1. dd's seek is not doing what i want
2. fdisk is lying to me
3. i've misinterpreted the output from fdisk
4. or some other mistake on my part
cause the resulting partition image file is definitely not the
partition i want. rather it seems to contain stuff from before the
partition i'm trying to dd out.
i'll post the details of what i'm trying to do when i get in to work.
(work is where the .bash_history lies).

PS: and yes, i realise that cause it's me, options 3 and 4 are the
most likely... you can save the witticisms. :)
