There's a doc called es1371, in (guessing wildly) 
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound which tells you what the SB128 or whatever 
other card you have is unable to do in standard fashions. There are 
workarounds, and some extra farting about to do. I bought one of those and 
slung it, preferring a repair on my old Opti 931 soundcard.
