Some particular Mozilla releases have been much too slow: 0.95 was,
although 0.93 was not. I currently have 0.97 installed, and rendering
performance is OK again -- as it has generally been from 0.91 onwards.
For that reason and others, comments on Mozilla performance and bugs
need to be qualified as to version -- which you didn't do. (E.g., some
comments turn out to be based on the old M18 build, which is no longer
relevant.)
Netscape Communicator 4.78 can be used as a handy yardstick: Each
Mozilla 0.97 instance is slower to load into RAM. Rendering thereafter
is faster and much more accurate. Reportedly not as fast as the
proprietary Opera browser.
My friend Karsten Self maintains a Linux Browsers Review and mini-FAQ
page: http://kmself.home.netcom.com/Linux/FAQs/browsers.html He really
like Galeon, on balance. The page is blessedly explicit about both the
versions covered and the reviewer's criteria.
