as a little extra once you've uninstalled all the networking components
delete nidis*.vxd (2 files) from the windows diretory tree, then re-hoof
& hopefully plug & pray will work. 
oh & it helps to have the drivers for the net-card & windoze install set
already on the hdd as opposed to them being on a network share somewhere
:)

also having all the y2k updates for 95 installed tends to make the
problem you're having a little less of an issue!
